Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
In a series of new service additions at AIIMS Bhopal, a new form of Kidney Replacement Therapy, Continuous Kidney Replacement Therapy (CKRT), has been introduced in the Department of Nephrology on Monday.

Continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) is a special form of dialysis that is extremely useful for patients with severe kidney failure. Dr. Mahendra Atlani, Nephrologist, AIIMS Bhopal, said that it helps in supporting the kidney function of patients who have low blood pressure and hence cannot undergo the normally available dialysis. Apart from kidney problems, it also helps patients with brain injuries and bleeding problems. This therapy has been initiated in a patient with concurrent septic shock, respiratory failure, and renal failure, where continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) with local citrate anticoagulation has been initiated. The patient’s condition is improving.
