Two women held with ganja worth Rs 3.3 lakh in Mangalwara

Bhopal: In a significant crackdown, the city crime branch apprehended two women, one of whom was elderly, while they were attempting to sell a substantial amount of cannabis valued at Rs 3.3 lakh. The accused women, carrying bags containing 16 kg of cannabis, were en route to supply the drugs to peddlers in Bhopal, according to officials.

The cannabis confiscated from the suspects was traced back to its origin in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, as revealed by crime branch authorities. Acting on a tip-off received on Wednesday, the crime branch team swiftly moved to a playground behind a hotel in the Mangalwara area, where they apprehended the two women. Both suspects, identified as Reena Uikey from Habibganj and Kaushalya Bai from Vidisha, were engaged in daily wage labor.

Were smuggling cannabis from Visakhapatnam

Upon inspection of their bags, officials discovered a significant quantity of cannabis weighing 16.5 kilograms, with an estimated value of Rs 3.5 lakh. The accused divulged that the contraband was provided to them by an acquaintance for distribution among other drug peddlers in Bhopal, with the aim of making quick profits.

The crime branch confiscated the entire consignment and detained the suspects for interrogation. Authorities express optimism about dismantling the entire network involved in this illicit trade upon further investigation.
