Sonia Gandhi re-elected as Chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party

New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi was on Saturday re-elected as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) here.

The name of Sonia Gandhi as CPP Chairperson was proposed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. The proposal was seconded by Gaurav Gogoi, K Sudhakaran and Tariq Anwar and the CPP unanimously elected the Rajya Sabha MP as its Chairperson.

After her re-election, Sonia Gandhi while calling it as an ’emotional moment’ said, “I will do my best and more to fulfill the trust and confidence you have continued to place on me”.

She also congratulated the newly-elected Lok Sabha MPs for ‘fighting this tough election under the most challenging circumstances’.

The former Congress President asked her party “To be alert to prevent any attempts to increase polarisation and erosion of secular and democratic values enshrined in our Constitution and to bring Parliamentary politics back to track to where they legitimately belongs”.

Earlier in the day, the party held the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting here where a resolution was passed requesting former party president Rahul Gandhi to take up the Leader of the Opposition position in the Lok Sabha.
