Seven killed, 8 injured as firecracker factory catches fire

Kaushambi (UP), Feb 25 (UNI) At least seven persons were killed and eight others injured when an explosion took place in a firecracker factory after it caught fire in Kokhraj area of Kaushambi district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a police officer said here.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said that seven persons, including Mohammad Shahid Ali, the son of the factory owner, were killed in the incident and 8 workers were injured.

“The injured have been admitted to the district hospital. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination,” he said.

Sources said that the incident took place in Khallabad locality where a firecracker factory was being run by Sharafat.

“On Sunday when around two dozen workers were preparing firecrackers the factory caught fire leading into an explosion,” they said.

“The police and fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the fire. Efforts are being made to identify the victims,” they said.
