Mohan Yadav offers worship at Mahakal after taking oath

Ujjain: After officially assuming the role of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, Dr. Mohan Yadav undertook a visit to his hometown, Ujjain, where he conducted a ‘Rudrabhishek’ ceremony at the Mahakaleshwar Temple.

During the ritual, Yadav expressed his commitment to fulfilling all responsibilities and serving as a dedicated Chief Minister for the state. His prayers included seeking progress and welfare for the people of Madhya Pradesh.

This marked Yadav’s inaugural visit to Ujjain as the Chief Minister. He received a warm welcome at the helipad, with senior administrative officials extending greetings. Following the temple visit, he is scheduled to return to Bhopal.

Yadav assumed the position of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Manhubhai Patel, and other prominent BJP leaders at Bhopal’s Lal Parade Ground on Wednesday.

CM accorded warm welcome

After taking the oath of office and secrecy in Bhopal on Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reached Ujjain and worshiped Lord Mahakal at Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. The worship was done by Pandits Rajesh Pujari, Akash Pujari, Yash Guru, Arpit Pujari, Raghav Pujari, Mahesh Pujari etc. Collector Shri Kumar Purushottam and Additional Collector and Administrator Shri Sandeep Soni presented a picture of Lord Mahakal as a symbol to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav in Nandi Hall. On this occasion, Ujjain North MLA Shri Anil Jain Kaluhera and senior administrative officials were present.

Can Yadav not stay overnight in Ujjain

Meanwhile, according to a longstanding belief in Ujjain, only one ‘Raja’ (king) is permitted to stay overnight, as Lord Mahakal is revered as the ‘Raja of Ujjain.’ As per local tradition, if any head of state, chief minister, or prime minister spends a night in Ujjain, they are believed to face a subsequent loss of power and government.

Historically, former Prime Minister Morarji Desai resigned in 1979, and it is believed that his overnight stay in Ujjain led to unfavorable events, prompting his resignation.

Notably, Ujjain is also Mohan Yadav’s hometown. Now that he holds the position of Chief Minister, there is speculation about whether Yadav will adhere to the tradition and refrain from staying overnight in Ujjain.

Mohan Yadav, a three-time MLA from Ujjain, secured victory in the Ujjain South assembly constituency during the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in 2023, defeating Congress’s Chetan Prenarayan Yadav by 12,941 votes.
