ASP booked in fake caste certificate case

Bhopal: An additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Madhya Pradesh is facing charges in a fake caste certificate case, as per officials on Wednesday. The FIR was lodged on December 7 at Anandpur police station in Vidisha district under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including cheating, after an investigation conducted by a state-level investigation committee.

The accused ASP, identified as Amritlal Meena, is currently stationed in Gwalior district. The case against him involves IPC sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 related to a fake caste certificate. Vidisha ASP Sameer Yadav stated that the action was taken based on a report from the state-level investigation committee, and further inquiry is underway.

ASP Yadav mentioned that the concerned ASP had informed them about a restoration order granted by the Madhya Pradesh High Court on December 8, which pertained to restoring the previous stay order in the matter. Nevertheless, a case has been registered at present.

According to the FIR copy, a state-level committee established by the Madhya Pradesh government to scrutinize doubtful caste certificates of Scheduled Tribes had decided on February 19, 2016, that the questionable certificate of Scheduled Tribe had been issued by Amritlal Meena from October 29, 1991. This certificate was canceled by the committee after due consideration, with an order to take legal action.

Following this decision, ASP Meena filed a petition in the MP High Court, obtaining a stay on April 5, 2016. The order dated December 1, 2023, from the High Court abolished the stay given in the interim order of the petition dated April 5, 2016.

As a result, a letter from the Superintendent of Police dated December 7, 2023, instructed action against Meena. Subsequently, the case was registered under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, and 471.
