Encroachments removed from green belt amidst protests

Those opposing BMC action booked

Bhopal: On the instructions of the National Green Tribunal, the Municipal Corporation team that had come to remove encroachments from the Green Belt from Karond Square to Airport Road was surrounded by the encroachers. They started opposing the action of removing encroachment. When the encroachment staff did not agree, the encroachers started abusing the team in-charge Nasir Khan. They also started threatening to kill if they did not return. The uproar continued for about one and a half hours, after which the policemen forcefully removed the encroachers and action was taken. The encroachment in-charge reached Nishatpura police station and registered a case of obstructing government work.

On the instructions of NGT, encroachment is being removed in the green belt area. Under this, the Municipal Corporation’s encroachment team had reached New Jail Road on Thursday to take action. Encroachment officer Nasir Khan said that the occupants had already been informed. Still they did not remove the encroachments. Rather they started creating ruckus during the proceedings. Two persons, Pappu Maulana and Firdos Maulana, tried to stop the action and threatened Nasir Khan. Nasir Khan told that both the persons were stopping the action by bringing about 20-25 people. This information was immediately given to the Nishatpura police station along with the corporation officials and they went to the police station and lodged a complaint against the concerned persons.

When the corporation staff arrived to take action, the encroachers told Nasir Khan to first remove the encroachment of Hindus. On this Nasir explained to them that we do not take action considering religion and caste. Whenever there is a need, action is taken, be it Hindu or Muslim. However, notice to remove encroachment from here was given two days in advance. Most sheds were built. Some sand and gravel vendors had built illegal benches. The police have registered a case under sections 353, 294, 506 and 34.
