Kolkata, Oct 5 (UNI) Calcutta High Court on Thursday asked the Enforcement Directorate to complete the investigation in connection with the alleged teachers’ recruitment scam in the West Bengal government-aided schools by the end of this year 2023, court sources said.
The division bench of Calcutta High Court, headed by Justice Soumen Sen and Uday Kumar while hearing a petition filed by the counsels of one of the accused Abhishekh Banerjee, the national general secretary of Trinamool Congress, asked why the
Central probe agency was taking long time (now 19 months) and directed it to complete the investigation by December 31, 2023, the sources added.
Hearing the appeal by the Diamond Harbour MP challenging the order of a single bench that had directed the ED to ensure the investigation process on October 3 is not hampered, the division bench on Wednesday asked the ED that it can fix a time limit for Banerjee to submit documents as required by it.
The ED on Wednesday had summoned Banerjee to appear before it here on October 9, after he skipped the October 3 summons to participate in the TMC protest rally in New Delhi to demand the release of central funds due to the state.
The double bench on Wednesday suggested that the ED can consider summoning Banerjee if it is not satisfied with the documents submitted by him to the agency.
The judges however asked Banerjee’s counsel to submit the necessary documents to the probe agency by October 10.
