World leaders congratulate Modi on winning third term

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Several world leaders, including many from the immediate neighbourhood, have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he is about to form government for the third successive term.

The congratulation messages started pouring in from Tuesday evening when the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections started giving a clear picture, of the BJP-led NDA coalition headed by PM Modi having notched up the majority numbers needed to form government.

From India’s immediate neighbourhood, the leaders of Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mauritius sent congratulatory greetings to PM Modi on X.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulated PM Modi on the “historic victory” of the NDA for a third term, and said he looks forward to working with him to deepen the bilateral partnership.

“Congratulations @narendramodi on the historic victory by the NDA for the third consecutive term. Look forward to working with you to deepen the Singapore-India partnership and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year,” Wong said on X.

Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni said on X that she is certain that the two leaders will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites their two countries.

“Congratulations to @narendramodi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. Certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us,” Meloni posted on X.

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu in his message said he looks forward to working with PM Modi to advance their shared interests in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for the two nations.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi, and the BJP and BJP-led NDA, on the success in the 2024 Indian General Election, for the third consecutive term.

“I look forward to working together to advance our shared interests in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for our two countries,” he wrote on X.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka as the closest neighbour is looking forward to further strengthening the partnership with India.

“I extend my warmest felicitations to the @BJP4India led NDA on its victory, demonstrating the confidence of the Indian people in the progress and prosperity under the leadership of PM @narendramodi,” he said.

“As the closest neighbour Sri Lanka looks forward to further strengthening the partnership with India,” the Sri Lankan President posted on X.

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in his message said he looks forward to closely working with PM Modi to further strengthen the bilateral relations.

“Congratulations to my friend PM @narendramodi ji and NDA for the historic 3rd consecutive win in the world’s biggest elections. As he continues to lead Bharat to great heights, I look forward to working closely with him to further strengthen the relations between our 2 countries,” he said on X.

Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth in his message said that under PM Modi’s helm India will continue to achieve remarkable progress, and hailed the bilateral special relationship.

“Congratulations Prime Minister Modi Ji @narendramodi on your laudable victory for a historic third term.

“Under your helm, the largest democracy will continue to achieve remarkable progress.

“Long live the Mauritius-India special relationship.”

Nepal PM Prachanda in his message on X said: “Congratulations to PM @narendramodi on the electoral success of BJP and NDA in the Lok Sabha elections for the third consecutive term. We are happy to note the successful completion of the world’s largest democratic exercise with enthusiastic participation of the people of India.”

Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in his congratulatory message to “friend” Narendra Modi, said that he looks forward to strengthening ties with the new government.

“My heartiest congratulations to my friend @narendramodi ji on securing a third term following BJP’s victory in India. The people have spoken, acknowledging his vision & dedication to serving India. I look forward to furthering our ties with the new government.”

Mohamed Nasheed, Maldives ex-president, in his message said that Modi’s new term would see another term “of warm and great” bilateral friendship.

“My warmest congratulations to Hon PM @narendramodi for winning a third term of office. I have no doubt this will be another term of warm and great Maldives India friendship.”

Former Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, in his message of congratulations said that under PM Modi’s leadership India has significantly improved its ties with Maldives and the region, and expressed confidence that the new term would see further bilateral cooperation.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi on being re-elected for a historic third term. Under your leadership, #India has significantly improved its relationship with #Maldives and the region. I am confident you will build on these successes towards greater cooperation.

“I also commend the people and institutions of India for their resilience and commitment to democracy, as the world’s largest democratic exercise draws to a close,” he posted.

The VP of the Maldives Hussain Latheef said in his post that he looks forward to enhancing the bilateral ties.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi and @BJP4India on your victory in the elections. I look forward to strengthening and enhancing the relationship and co-operation between our nations under your esteemed leadership.”

The PM of Jamaica Andrew Holness in a post on X said: “Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi as he prepares to embark on a historic third term as India’s head of government.”

The PM of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, in her message said that under PM Modi India has become a global leader and an ally of Barbados and the Caribbean region.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi on his victory in India’s elections, which has seen him secure an unprecedented third term.

“Under his leadership, India has become a global leader and ally to Barbados and the Caribbean region. Let’s continue to build together!”

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud congratulated the winning alliance in India led by the ruling BJP and the people of India for exercising their democratic rights in the recently held elections.

The Bangladesh Foreign Minister on Wednesday also congratulated the Congress-led INDIA bloc.

“We congratulate the NDA, INDIA and the people of India for continuing the democratic trend. It is an inspiration and example of democracy,” he told reporters in Dhaka.

Hasan said a new government will soon be formed in India and hoped that relations between Bangladesh and India will reach new heights with deeper cooperation and expansion of people-to-people ties.

“This is the choice of the Indian people. The same alliance will be in power. Our ties will continue. Our relationship with India is based on the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War and bonded through shared sacrifice and blood,” said the foreign minister.
