Kasganj, Feb 24 (UNI) As many as 22 people, mostly women and children, died and several others were injured as a tractor-trolley overturned after it fell into a pond in Patiali area of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, police sources said here.
Police identified the deceased as Shakuntala Devi (70), Usama (24), Meera (65), Sapna (22), Pushpa (45), Shivam (30), Shivam (6), Diksha (19), Gayatri (52), Shyam Lata (40) Sunaina (10), Guddi (75), Siddhu, Kuldeep (7), Sandhya (5), Shivangi (25) Meera (55), Kartik (4), Payal, Laddu (3) Anjali (24) and Savitri (25).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief over the death and conveyed his sympathies to the family members of the deceased. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Police sources said the incident took place when the villagers from Nagar Katia and Gauri villages were going to perform the ‘Mundan’ ceremony of a boy Siddhu. As soon as the news of the accident was received, the SDM and CO of Patiali reached the spot along with the police force.
Kasganj Superintendent of Police said the SDM and CO Kasganj were present at the incident site. Relief and rescue work is going on.
