Kannur, (UNI) Tamil Nadu won the individual title with three gold medals, while Haryana secured second position with one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, and Manipur with one gold and two bronze medals, and Haryana came into third spot with one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, at the end of the second day, after the completion of six individual categories in the 35th Senior National Fencing Championship held at Mundayad Indoor Stadium here on late Wednesday.
Tamil Nadu won the three gold medals through K Bibish in men’s foil, K P Gisho Nidhi in men’s sabre, and Olympian C A Bhavani Devi in women’s sabre categories, while Sonia Devi Waikhom (women’s foil), Khatri Tanishka (women’s epee), and Jetlee Chingaakham secured gold for Manipur, Haryana, and Services, respectively.
In the Women’s Epee category, Khatri Tanishka (Haryana) won the gold medal, while Arora Ena (Punjab) won the silver, and Dalal Sheetal (Haryana) and Bidyabati Laikhuram (Manipur) secured bronze medals, respectively.
In the Men’s Epee category, Jetlee Chingakham (SSCB) won the gold medal, while Jakate Girish (Maharashtra) won the silver, and Singh Udaivir (Punjab) and Kapoor Shivaash (Jammu and Kashmir) secured bronze medals.
In the Men’s Foil category, K Bibish (Tamilnadu) won the gold, Kumar Akash (Bihar) won the silver, and Singh Samasam Hemash (SSCB) and Patil Thejus (Maharashtra) secured bronze medals.
In the Women’s Foil category, Sonia Devi Waikhom (Manipur) won the Gold, Kanupriya (Haryana) won the silver, and Prachi Prachi (Haryana) and Mina Devi (Manipur) secured Bronze medals.
In the Women’s Sabre category, C. A. Bhavani Devi (Tamil Nadu) won the gold, Sunny Alka (Kerala) won the silver, and Guptaa Sreya (Jammu and Kashmir) and Aakhri (Haryana) secured bronze medals.
In the Men’s Sabre category, K P Gisho Nidhi (Tamilnadu) won the gold, Shinde Abhay (Maharashtra) won the silver, and Yadav Gorakhnath (Uttar Pradesh) and Thapar Vishal (Jammu and Kashmir) secured bronze medals.
168 groups from 28 states will compete in the group matches starting tomorrow morning. Top rankers in the individual category will take part in the group matches scheduled on January 2 and 3.
