Heavy rains lash Madhya Pradesh

  • Orange alert issued for several districts
  • Monsoon fury

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh – Brace yourselves, Madhya Pradesh! The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for several districts, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall on Tuesday and widespread downpours across the state until July 3.

Forecasters predict intense rainfall for Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopurkalan, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Mandla, Panna, and Damoh districts tomorrow. Residents in these areas are advised to exercise extreme caution as the monsoon intensifies.

Widespread showers and strong winds expected

Beyond the Orange Alert zones, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Indore, Bhopal, Vidisha, Panna, Dewas, Mauganj, and Satna, indicating significant rainfall in these regions as well. Accompanying the rain, winds are expected to gust at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, adding to the challenging weather conditions.

The Meteorological Department attributes this heightened activity to a low-pressure area that has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts. This system is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. Over the next two days, the system is expected to move gradually west-northwestwards across North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand, fueling further monsoon activity over Madhya Pradesh.
