TN government moves SC against Governor Ravi’s refusal to appoint Ponmudi as Minister

New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Government on Monday approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to the TN Governor to appoint K Ponmudi as Cabinet Minister.

The petition moved by the Tamil Nadu Government has informed the Apex Court that Governor RN Ravi has refused to accede to the request of Chief Minister to appoint Mr Ponmudi as Minister and for shuffling of portfolio. Hence directions should be given to him to carry forward the CM’s recommendation.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for an urgent listing.

The CJI suggested Singhvi to send an email to the registry for an urgent hearing.

Singhvi said, “This is the same errant Governor, who was earlier dealt with by the Top Court.’

The Court had earlier stayed Ponmudi’s conviction. Under that, the Chief Minister recommended the appointment of Ponmudi as a Minister. The Governor then wrote a letter saying it was constitutionally immoral for him to appoint.

Senior Advocates, Dr Abisheik Manu Singhvi and Mr P. Wilson approached the Chief Justice of India and sought the earliest time for arguments. The CJI permitted to move the application. The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.
