Stocks market tumbles during last hour of trading; Sensex falls over 188 points

Mumbai, April 30 (UNI) The stock market on Tuesday witnessed heavy profit booking during the last hour of the trading as the 30-stock Sensex ended 188.5 points down to close at 74482.78, erasing all gains during the intra-day.

The Sensex opened up 129 points and rose 440 points during the intra-day and touched day’s high of 75111.39.

After several rounds of selling during the month the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the last trading session yesterday to the tune of Rs 169 crore. The Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also bought securities worth Rs 692 crore yesterday.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) meanwhile eased 38.55 points to end the session at 22,604.85. The NSE registered days high and low at 22,783.35 and 22,568.40 pts respectively.

The stocks that dragged the market were IT and Technology, Metal and Oil and Gas.

In 30 scrips, 12 advanced, 17 declined while 1 remained unchanged.

The losers included Tech Mahindra by 2.08 pc to Rs 1261.95, JSW Steel by 1.50 pc to Rs 882.60, Tata Steel by 1.46 pc to Rs 164.95 and HCL Technology by 1.41 pc to Rs 1367.55.

The gainers were M&M by 4.53 pc to Rs 2156.30, Powergrid by 2.71 pc to Rs 301.65, IndusInd bank by 1.87 pc to Rs 1515.60 and Bajaj Finance by 1.52 pc to Rs 6931.05.
