Vizianagaram, Oct 29 (UNI) In a ghastly train accident, six passengers were killed and over 40 injured when a passenger train dashed a stationary passenger train between Alamand-Kantakapalli stations in the district.
According to railway sources, the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train halted on the track and waited for a signal. At the same time, the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train dashed the stationary train from the rear end.
Three bogies were badly crushed and derailed under the impact of the collision. Railway sources confirmed six deaths. Ambulances were sent to the place from Anakapalle and Visakhapatnam. Massive rescue operations were taken up and a special rescue train was sent to the place. SDRF teams rushed to the place to carry out rescuer operations. District Collector S Nagalakshmi and SP Diika Patel were monitoring the operations.
Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock and grief over the train accident. The Governor expressed anguish over the train accident near Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram district on Sunday, in which six passengers were reported to have lost their lives and several others were injured.
It was informed by the officials that when the Visakhapatnam-Palasa special passenger waiting for a signal was hit by the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train coming from behind, resulting in the derailing of three bogies.
Governor Abdul Nazeer was briefed that necessary relief arrangements have been made and action has been taken by the authorities to shift the injured passengers to the nearby hospitals to provide immediate medical treatment. The Governor expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and wished for the early recovery of the injured persons.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed shock over the train mishap at Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram and instructed the officials to carry out relief operations.
On receiving information of the derailment of four bogies of the Rayagada bound passenger train near Vizianagaram, the Chief Minister instructed Medical and Health, Revenue, Police, and other department officials to coordinate and carry out relief operations immediately. He also asked them to report the developments from time to time.
