Sensex surges 539.50 pts

Mumbai, Mar 21 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Thursday spurted 539.50 pts to close at 72,641.19 amid strong global cues as Federal Open Market Committee (‘FOMC) kept US Federal Reserve kept its rates unchanged at 5.25 to 5.30 per cent boosted the Dalal Street also.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 172.85 pts at 22,011.95.

The NSE registered days high and low at 22,080.95 and 21,941.30 pts respectively.

The Sensex opened at 72507.36, rising 406 pts. During the day it was rallied 801 pts at 72,882.46, days high, before closing 72641.19 gaining 539.50 pts from its previous close.

The stocks that shined were Power by 3.06 pc followed by Realty by 2.96 pc, Capital Goods by 2.77 pc and Utilities by 2.70 pc.

The Mid cap rose by 2.36 pc while Small Cap fell by 2.01 pc.

In 30 scrips, 26 advanced, while 4 declined.

The gainers were NTPC by 3.71 pc to Rs 325.50, Pow Powergrid by 3.40 pc to Rs 273.75, Tata Steel by 2.99 pc to Rs 150.05, IndusInd bank by 2.93 pc to Rs 1483.80 and Tata Motors by 2.57 pc to Rs 964.85.

The losers were Bharti Airtel by 0.83 pc to Rs 1221.80, ICICI bank by 0.24 pc to Rs 1082.25, Maruti Suzuki by 0.23 pc to Rs 11913.80 and Asian Paints by 0.06 pc to Rs 2821.50.

Asian Market was also up as Strait Times rose by 1.33 pc, Hang Sang by 1.90 pc, Taiwan Strait by 2.05 pc and Kospi by 2.35 pc.
