Sensex crashes 1235.08 pts

Mumbai, Jan 21 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday tanked 1235.08 pts to settle at 75,838.36 as selling was seen across the board along with investors’ uncertainty over the US Presidents tarrif policy.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slid 320.10 pts at 23,024.65.

Registering gains over 400 pts on Monday, the Sensex opened on a strong note at 77,261.72, rising 188 pts. It rallied 264 pts at 77,337.36, a day high.

Later, it dropped 1432 pts at 75,641.87, a day low, before closing at 75,838.36, tumbling down 1235.08 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,426.30 and 22,976.85 pts respectively.

The stocks that dragged the market were Realty by 4.22 pc followed by Consumer Durable by 3.99 pc, Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services by 2.90 pc and Telecommunication by 2.52 pc.

The Mid-cap fell by 2 pc and Small-cap by 1.94 pc.

In 30 scrips, 4 advanced while 26 declined.

The losers were Zomato by 10.56 pc to Rs 215.50, NTPC by 3.36 pc to Rs 324.75, Adani Ports by 3.32 pc to Rs 1110.95, ICICI Bank by 2.80 pc to Rs 1198.30 and SBI by 2.45 pc to Rs 759.95.

The gainers were Ultracemco by 0.76 pc to Rs 10705.05, HCL Technology by 0.49 pc to Rs 1804.50, ITC by 0.10 pc to Rs 438.20, and Hind Unilever by 0.01 pc to Rs 2345.55.

A mixed trend was seen in the Asian market as Hang Seng was up by 0.90 pc and Taiwan Weighted by 0.14 pc.

Strait Times fell by 0.33 pc and Kospi by 0.08 pc.
