Harare, July 14 (UNI) India defeated Zimbabwe by a convincing 42-run margin to pocket their five-game T20I series 4-1 on Sunday.
Zimbabwe managed to win only the opening outing.
The foundation of India’s win was laid by Sanju Samson’s impressive knock of 58 runs off 45 balls. Samson’s innings was a masterclass in composure and aggression, as he took charge of India’s batting lineup after the early loss of three wickets. His innings was adorned with four sixes and a boundary, which electrified the fans and provided the much-needed momentum to India’s innings.
Mukesh Kumar’s bowling spell was the turning point of the match, as he struck in his first two overs to dismiss Zimbabwe’s opening batsmen Wessly Madhevere. Although Dion Myers was reprieved due to a no-ball, Kumar’s devastating spell continued to rattle the Zimbabwean batting lineup, paving the way for India’s convincing victory. Kumar’s figures of 4/22 were a testament to his exceptional bowling skills.
Despite a valiant effort from Faraz Akram, who scored a quickfire 27 off 13 balls, Zimbabwe’s batting collapsed. The hosts slipped from 85/3 to 94/7, which ultimately sealed their fate.
The series victory was a fitting culmination of India’s impressive performance throughout the engagements.
