Jitendra Purohit / Sunil Yogi, Bagli,

Bagli is the most famous assembly constituency of Dewas district. It has been in discussion in the whole state since 1956 in Central India.

Bagli, which came under Ujjain parliamentary constituency in Madhya Bharat in the first election, was included in Dewas Shajapur parliamentary constituency in 1965. Khandwa became a part of the parliamentary constituency in the new delimitation in 1977. Here Mishrilal Gangwal first won the election from this assembly and became a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government. In 1962, Kailash Joshi won the election, defeating Hate Singh Goyal (Dewas). In 1967, Congress fielded Mishrilal Gangwal, who was a minister in the state government, to break this strong fort of BJP, Kailash Joshi defeated him easily. Since then, the Bagli Vidhansabha has come into focus in the entire state and has become a strong stronghold of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. In 1972, Bagli’s own advocate and senior Congress worker Satish Chandra Inani contested the election, he was also defeated by Janata Party’s Kailash Joshi. The same situation prevailed in 1977 when a joint government was formed in Madhya Pradesh and Kailash Joshi became the Chief Minister for some time. In 1980, the Congress wave came but could not demolish this stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984, in the big wave of Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party almost completely ended in the state, yet Kailash Joshi contested on behalf of the BJP in the 1985 assembly elections and reached the assembly after winning the election. In 1990, the Bharatiya Janata Party government was formed, but after the fall of five state governments on the Ram Mandir issue, the government of Madhya Pradesh also fell and Kailash Joshi, who was the Industry Minister included in this government, contested the elections again in 1993. Shyam Holani of Congress was in the fray in front, Kailash Joshi defeated him with a big margin. In 1998, Congress’s Shyam Holani reached the Vidhansabha by defeating Kailash Joshi, then Kailash Joshi left Bagli Vidhansabha and tried his luck in Bhopal Lok Sabha seat and was MP from Bhopal twice. He was also a Rajya Sabha member once.
