No one has power to change Baba Saheb’s Constitution: Rahul Gandhi

Deoria (UP), May 28 (UNI) Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday that no one has the power to change the Constitution of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and if any attempt is made to do so, those who change the Constitution will have to face heavy opposition.

While addressing a joint election meeting with Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav at Baraon in Bansgaon Lok Sabha constituency, Rahul said that the current Lok Sabha elections are not an ordinary election but a fight between two ideologies. He said that his party and the constituent parties of INDI alliance are fighting to save the Constitution.

He said before independence and the drafting of the Constitution, the poor, Dalits, tribals, backward and farmers did not have any rights and these rights were given to them when the law came into force in 1950.

The Congress leader alleged that if the NDA comes to power again, the rights given to the poor, tribals, and Dalits will not be applicable and schemes like MNREGA, land rights, reservation, pension, and other welfare measures will also be abolished.

He said that this (Constitution) is the soul of the poor and no one can touch it. “No power in the world can change it. These BJP people are dreaming,” he said.

Rahul said that Congress fought against the British along with Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Nehruji, and countrymen and drafted the Constitution, which is the voice of India. He alleged that they (BJP) say that they are not against reservation.

He said, “If you are not against reservation then why are you privatising the public sector, railways? Why did you bring Agniveer Yojana? All these works are against the reservation system.”

He claimed that the BJP-led government at the centre has waived loans of Rs 16 lakh crore of 22 to 25 people. “This amount was enough to waive the loans of farmers for 25 years and to provide benefits under MNREGA for 24 years. I want to ask whether the loans of farmers, workers, small businessmen were waived? A poor person goes to a private hospital and drowns in debt. But has Prime Minister Narendra Modi ever said that he will waive off the debts of the poor?’ he said.

Rahul said that these 22 people (billionaires) have as much money as 70 crore Indians. “When the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir took place, all these people were sitting there. Did you see any poor labourers or farmers there? Bollywood actors, and members of the Indian cricket team were there, but no poor, backward, tribal people were seen there. Even the President of India was not there,” he said.
