Man hangs self at park under debt pressure

Bhopal: A 30-year-old man, employed as a guard at the Priyadarshini Park in the city, located at Polytechnic Square, died by hanging himself inside the park in the early hours of Wednesday, the police said.

The man was a drug addict who had also been reeling under financial straits and thus took the extreme step, as claimed by the police.

Shyamala Hills police station officials aware of the incident said that the man who took the extreme step has been identified as Ajay Raikwar (30). He was employed as a security guard at Priyadarshini Park, located opposite Manas Bhawan at Shyamala Hills.

Cop seriously hurt in attack by sand mafia

Members of Sand mafia gang allegedly assaulted a constable on Wednesday during a police raid at the mining site in Bhind district. They pushed him and even tried to snatch his rifle. The constable has sustained severe injuries.

According to district mining officer Dinesh Dudbe, the mafias were involved in extracting sand from the Sind River in the village of Indurkhi, in the Bhind district. The sand from Sind river banks is highly valued for construction purposes. Despite the lack of a tender for the past two years, the mine has remained operational. Mafia groups extract sand from here and sell it. Local residents allege that the mafia receives political protection.
