Srinagar, Apr 21 (UNI) National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday described Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti as “selfish” for not abiding by the INDIA alliance.
Omar was speaking at a rally at South Kashmir’s Bijbehara from where National Conference candidate Main Altaf is pitted against the PDP President Mufti, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) nominee Mohammad Saleem, and Apni Party leader Zaffar Manhas.
“INDIA alliance was made to counter the sectarian forces including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) together. There was nothing like seeing seat sharing or our profit. It was just to see how Jammu and Kashmir will progress along with the whole country”, Omar said.
“Unfortunately, the National Conference has to contest against one of the INDIA alliance members in this constituency and they are blaming NC has betrayed them”, he said.
Omar blamed Mehbooba Mufti in her speech describing NC as selfish.
“We had said right from the beginning that the three Kashmir seats on which the National Conference had won the elections in Kashmir valley will put their candidates only”, the NC Vice President said.
“If we are selfish, is the Congress too are selfish. Congress and CPIM’s Taragami openly support the NC candidate Mian Altaf to get him to win the elections from the south Kashmir seat”.
“Are they all selfish”, Omar said and added “Selfish are those who had just bonded with the INDIA alliance to get a seat anyhow and there was no other motive of them”.
He said, “INDIA alliance is competing with BJP, who are sharing the stage with me here. And those who are not on the stage are directly trying to give advantage to BJP”.
“Our motive was just against those people who have spread the venom of racism in the country, destroyed Jammu and Kashmir, fought a brother with a brother, and divided the state into two UTs”, Omar said and added, “They have snapped our existence, identity, honour and we pledged to defeat these forces for that we left Kargil, Jammu and Udhampur seats for the alliance partners”.
“I hope that you will consider my saying and whatever will be your decision on May 7, the polling day will be acceptable to us”, Omar said during the public rally.
