New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan on Friday told the Rajya Sabha that the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Communications have jointly developed an Integrated Alert System “SACHET” to alert the citizens about impending disasters.
By using this system, Short Message Service (SMS) will be sent to alert the citizens, he said.
In a written reply to a question regarding Emergency Alert System, Chauhan said the system is operational in all States/ UTs since August 2021 and a total of 1,359 Crore SMSs have been sent till date.
To further improve disaster awareness, both Ministries have collaborated to develop Cell Broadcasting based Emergency Alert System. This system allows disseminating critical and time- sensitive disaster management information on the mobile devices within specified geographical areas and has been designed indigenously and is undergoing comprehensive testing, the Minister said.
Both these systems are designed to ensure dissemination of information and prevent loss of life. They do not pose any threat to the privacy of Indian citizens, he added.
