Congress MP and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh has refused to contest the Lok Sabha elections. In reply to a question by the media in Khilchipur, he said that the question of him contesting elections does not arise because he was a member of Rajya Sabha and still has two and a quarter years to go.

Three days ago, he had participated in the first round of organizational meetings in Biaora and Narsinghgarh assembly constituencies. On the three-day tour of Rajgarh district, on the first day, he held meetings in three sessions of block, mandalam, sector and booth level workers of Khilchipur assembly. At the beginning of the meeting, former minister Priyavrat Singh, who was a candidate from Khilchipur assembly seat, said, former CM Digvijay Singh has come to listen to everything the workers have to say. Whatever suggestions you have, put them forward openly and explain the reasons why we lost the assembly elections and how we will strengthen the Congress organization. Khilchipur city president Sanjay Kaushik, while advocating for fair elections through ballot paper, said, there should be a protest on the streets for EVM ban.
Contested elections after 16 years, lost from Bhopal
After the crushing defeat in the 2003 assembly elections, Digvijay Singh had refused to contest any election for the next 10 years. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal. In this election, Digvijay Singh had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.
