Congress reaches commission with NGO’s complaint

  • Accused of transferring Rs 7 crore 17 lakh to 1,434 NGOs

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
State Congress and the Law and Human Rights Department of Congress submitted a documented complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan on Tuesday and said that despite the code of conduct for assembly elections becoming effective in the state, the code of conduct under the Planning, Economic and Statistics Department of Madhya Pradesh Government is not being implemented. Madhya Pradesh Jan Abhiyan Parishad has given the first installment of Rs 50 thousand per organization to 1434 voluntary organizations (NGOs) selected in the financial year 2022-23 under the Navankur scheme for the financial year 2023-24 in 52 districts. The total amount of Rs 7 crore 17 lakh will be deposited in their accounts. Which is a direct violation of the code of conduct. Therefore, if the Election Commission is impartial then it should take visible legal action against the Jan Abhiyan Parishad.

The Congress delegation sent a letter to the Election Commission on this subject, written by the Jan Abhiyan Parishad to all its divisional coordinators on 2nd November 2023, despite the code of conduct being in effect and transferred to the new institutions as the first installment. The order letter related to the amount has also been presented.

Questions raised for not taking cognizance

During the meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, former Additional Advocate General and Senior Advocate of the State Ajay Gupta and President of State Congress Media Department KK Mishra along with their colleagues also asked him as to what is the reason that 300 FIRs have been issued for various genuine violations of the Code of Conduct. Complaints have been made to the Election Commission by the party forum. But the Commission neither took cognizance of a single complaint nor resolved it. The surprising thing is that till date no show cause notice has been issued to the concerned party. Is this the measure of his impartiality? If this happens then the rationale for forming the commission will be lost. Therefore, it will be necessary that the Commission seriously consider this authentic complaint and take action against the culprits.
