Cong promises free education in Chhattisgarh

Bhanupratappur, Oct 28 (UNI) In a major electoral sop for Chhattisgarh, erstwhile Congress president Rahul Gandhi averred on Saturday that his party’s dispensation would provide education free of cost from the kindergarten to post-graduate levels in government-managed academic institutions including medical and engineering colleges.

Addressing a rally at this town within Kanker district, the visiting leader accused the Centre’s Narendra Modi regime of talking big while actually working for select capitalists such as tycoon Gautam Adani instead of toiling for the indigent.

“Mines, airports and ports were handed over to Mr Adani and the three black laws – drafted vis-à-vis the agrarian sector – were also aimed at benefiting him. He controls the apple business! The BJP hands over funds to that industrialist who spends the money abroad for purchasing factories and conducting business,” Mr Gandhi alleged.

The Modi government is deceiving the Other Backward Classes, he said, adding that leaders who mention the OBCs in every speech are silent over the issue of the caste census.

“The OBCs constitute approximately 50 per cent of the population but do not enjoy participation in the right proportion. The Prime Minister is aware of the truth but the same is being concealed. The media cannot question Mr Modi therefore raise your voice during public meetings and ask him to release the figures of the caste census conducted during Congress rule.

The Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act has been rendered hollow. Tribal folk should be granted their rights,” the former Congress President felt.

He assured that every standard bag of tendu leaf would be purchased at Rs 4,000 each; a bonus of Rs 4,000 also disbursed per household and the support price on every forest produce enhanced by Rs 10 per quintal.
