Bhutan king to visit Kamakhya Temple, Kaziranga during Assam trip

Guwahati, Nov 2 (UNI) The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, will interact with the local Bhutanese community and visit the Kamakhya Temple and the Kaziranga National Park during a packed two-day trip to Assam from Friday, official sources said.

During his visit, the king has various engagements in Guwahati on day one and will leave for Kaziranga on Saturday. before going to Jorhat, where he is scheduled to spend the night and then leave for New Delhi on Sunday. the sources said.

According to official sources, the King will arrive at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by a special flight on Friday afternoon. He will first visit the Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills and then interact with the Bhutanese community at a hotel here.

The King will attend a dinner to be hosted in his honour by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Raj Bhavan on Friday. Next morning, he will fly to Jorhat for a visit to Kaziranga National Park.

State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said there is a unique relationship between the two countries which has strengthened with the passage of time. Sarma said the people of Assam are eagerly waiting to welcome the King who is paying his maiden visit to the state.

“Bharat and Bhutan share a unique relationship which has strengthened with the passage of time. For centuries, knowledge and education have been central to this special bond.

“Tomorrow, we in Assam, eagerly look forward to welcoming His Majesty, the King of Bhutan on his first official visit to our state. This visit will further deepen the friendship between the two countries” Sarma said on X (formerly Twitter).
