BHEL designs Stay Ring for hydroelectric project

Bhopal: BHEL Bhopal has successfully designed, fabricated and machined the Stay Ring for Polavaram Hydroelectric Project. The Stay Ring is a cylindrical structure weighing 140 MT with a diameter of 11.3 m and height of 4m. It has been manufactured in four quadrants. The first quadrant of the stay ring was flagged off today by Shri S M Ramanathan, Executive Director, BHEL Bhopal. Shri Avinash Chandra (GM – WEX, MOD & LGX), Shri V Shrinivas Rao (GM – Hydro) and Shri Alok Sengar (GM – Fabrication) were also present in the ceremony.

On completion, Polavaram hydro-electric project will be producing a total of 960 MW electricity with the help of its twelve Kaplan hydro turbine and hydro-generator sets of 80 MW each. The machines for Polavaram project are the largest being manufactured by BHEL. BHEL is supplying a major part of the machinery for Polavaram hydro-electric project which is being set up by M/s Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited for M/s Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited. The project is located on Godavari river in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
