Bablu, male bear of Van Vihar, dies

  • Bablu was 36 years old and was rescued from Rajasthan at the age of 19

Bablu, the oldest bear in Van Vihar National Park, died on Thursday. He was 36 years old. At the age of 19, he was rescued from Kalandar, Rajasthan. Since then, he had been in Van Vihar. According to Van Vihar management, due to his old age, Bablu was unwell for the last 4-5 days and was not able to take all his food.

This male bear was being treated by the wildlife doctor of Van Vihar under his supervision. Due to old age, there was weakness in its internal organs.

Dilatation of internal organs revealed

The post mortem report revealed dilatation of internal organs. After this, Bablu was cremated in Van Vihar. At the same time, his vital organs are being sent to the Veterinary College, Jabalpur for examination.

Came to Van Vihar in 2006

This male bear was freed from Kalandar in Rajasthan and brought to Van Vihar on 6 May 2006 at the age of 19 years. The bear was being monitored by Wildlife SOS in Van Vihar. The post-mortem of the dead female bear was done by wildlife doctor, Dr. Atul Gupta and wildlife doctor Dr. Rajat Kulkarni of Wildlife SOS Van Vihar in the presence of Director Padmapriya Balakrishnan and Deputy Director SK Sinha.
