- Asian Development Bank’s Country Director Miyo Oka announces this

Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide full support in making Madhya Pradesh’s economy effective and competitive. This announcement was made by ADB’s Country Director Miyo Oka, who is leading the India Resident Mission. She was addressing a workshop in Bhopal on Tuesday on the anniversary of 25 years of cooperation between ADB and Madhya Pradesh in the field of development.
She said that in view of Madhya Pradesh’s excellent performance and growing economy in the last two and a half decades, the partnership with the state will be taken further in new areas of development. Senior officials of ADB and various projects of the state government were present in this workshop. On this occasion, a booklet focusing on ADB’s investment in various sectors in the last 25 years was also launched.
New areas emerged for cooperation
ADB’s Oka said that Madhya Pradesh has made positive use of ADB’s financial cooperation in implementing development projects. This cooperation will be continued in the future. New areas of cooperation have emerged. Cooperation will be required in new areas like agri-business, quality improvement in school education, improvement in health services, skilling human resources and strengthening social infrastructure and management. It may be noted that the partnership between Madhya Pradesh and ADB began in 1999. Today, ADB has provided assistance of 6 billion US dollars in areas like energy, transport, urban development, agriculture, livelihood creation, water management and irrigation management. 23 thousand km of roads have been improved with 3 billion US dollars in road construction and improvement. 1.72 billion US dollars were provided in the energy sector and 800 million dollars were provided in the development of 140 cities. This helped in improving water supply, sewerage, sanitation, rainwater drainage and solid waste management.
