Woman succumbs to burn injuries, husband held

A man in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife by burning her with a flammable substance. The incident occurred on December 26 at their residence in Kulkarni Ka Bhatta, where both the husband, identified as Santosh Mehra, a painter, and the wife, identified as Deepa, sustained burn injuries under suspicious circumstances. The couple was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.

The investigating officer, SI Kamal Singh of Pardesipura police station, reported that statements from neighbors revealed Santosh’s alcohol addiction and a history of domestic violence against his wife. Witnesses claimed that Santosh, in an inebriated state, locked himself inside the house on the day of the incident. Subsequently, the woman emerged from the house in flames, prompting neighbors to intervene. Santosh also suffered burn injuries on his hand, neck, and cheeks during the incident.
