Wadhera’s crucial partnership propels MI to competitive total

Lucknow, (UNI) Nehal Wadhera emerged as a pivotal figure in Mumbai Indians’ quest for a competitive total of 144/7, orchestrating a crucial 53-run stand alongside Tim David for the fifth wicket in the 48th IPL match held here on Tuesday.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians encountered early setbacks as Lucknow Super Giants’ bowlers dominated the powerplay overs, claiming the wickets of key batsmen Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, and captain Hardik Pandya, leaving the visitors reeling at 28/4 within six overs.

However, Mumbai Indians found a glimmer of hope through a determined partnership between opener Ishan Kishan and Wadhera. Despite Kishan’s departure after contributing 32 runs, his stabilising presence provided Mumbai Indians with much-needed solidity.

Wadhera’s innings, marked by four boundaries and two sixes off 41 balls, proved pivotal in Mumbai Indians’ bid to set a respectable total. Despite their best efforts, Lucknow Super Giants’ bowlers, led by Mohsin Khan’s impressive figures of two wickets for 36 runs, maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings.

Contributions from Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, and Naveen-ul-Haq further hindered Mumbai Indians’ progress.

In the end, Mumbai Indians managed to post a competitive total, displaying moments of resilience amidst adversity. However, Lucknow Super Giants’ disciplined bowling ultimately proved vital in constraining Mumbai Indians.
