Etawah (Uttar Pradesh), April 24 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav will contest the Lok Sabha election from Kannauj, the traditional seat of the party.
National chief general secretary of the party, Prof Ram Gopal Yadav said that Akhilesh will file his nomination as SP candidate from Kannauj parliamentary seat at 12 noon on Thursday.
The report was also confirmed by the chief national spokesman of the party Rajendra Choudhary.
It may be noted that earlier SP had given ticket to Akhilesh’s nephew and former MP from Mainpuri Tej Pratap Yadav to contest the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.
The party believed that many people associated with the Kannauj parliamentary seat had appealed to Akhilesh that he himself should contest from the seat and not his nephew following which the SP President agreed to the request of the people of Kannauj and cancelled the ticket of Tej Pratap.
Following this, the electoral battle on Kannauj parliamentary seat has become interesting because there will be a direct contest between SP president Akhilesh Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subrata Pathak.
In 2019 Lok Sabha election, Akhilesh’s wife Dimple lost the election to BJP’s Subrata by a small margin.
