Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), May 8 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said that during its 10 years tenure, the Narendra Modi government at the centre has not given anything to the country except inflation and unemployment.
Addressing the public meetings in Bachhrawan and Thulwasa in support of her brother and Congress candidate from Rae Bareli Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka said that the only objective of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is to benefit the selected capitalists and waive off their debts.
“On the other hand the government has pushed the general public into the quagmire of inflation and unemployment by luring them with five kilograms of free ration,” she said.
The Congress general secretary said that the BJP government made all efforts to stop Rahul Gandhi from fighting for social justice. “They threw him out of the Parliament and even evicted him from his house, but following the ideals of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi marched thousands of kilometres from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Manipur to Mumbai to understand the problems of the people and raise their voice,” she said.
Priyanka said that before 2014, the Congress government implemented many schemes to save the common people from the sting of inflation and unemployment, but the present government brought schemes only for a few capitalists. “It is not concerned with the sufferings of the poor people of the country. Fertiliser and seeds are becoming expensive. The farmers of the country are committing suicide due to distress, while the agricultural labourers have no work,” she alleged.
She said that despite lakhs of government posts being vacant, the youths are yearning for employment. “The government has made the future of the youth guarding the borders bleak by introducing the Agniveer scheme,” the Congress leader said.
Linking his family connection with Rae Bareli, Priyanka said that his mother Sonia Gandhi has been an MP here since 2004 and her family has a close relationship with Rae Bareli. “Sonia Gandhi could not come to Rae Bareli for some time due to health reasons, but even while sitting in Delhi, she not only understood the problems of the people here but also made every effort to solve them,” she said.
The Congress general secretary said that now her brother Rahul Gandhi needs the blessings of the people of Rae Bareli. Priyana said that she has full faith that his family will continue to receive the love of Rae Bareli like before.
