Washington, April 8 (UNI) Former US President Donald Trump said on Monday that states should determine abortion rights by vote or legislation.
“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state,” Trump said in a video shared on the Truth Social platform.
The former president acknowledged that regulations will likely be different depending on a state with some opting for more conservative or liberal approaches to the issue, including on the number of weeks within which abortion is legal.
Trump encouraged individuals to make the right choices for themselves and their families as well as for their children and for the country.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about ‘will of the people.’ That’s where we are right now and that’s what we want – the will of the people,” he stated.
Trump during his time in the White House appointed three of the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, a ruling that recognized women’s constitutional right to abortion. As a result, the issue of access to abortion was left for the US states to decide.
