Telangana Govt celebrates “National Unity Day” across the state

Hyderabad, Sep 17 (UNI) The Telangana government marked “National Unity Day” with grand celebrations held throughout the state on Sunday.

The central festivities took place at Public Gardens, Nampally, where Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) hoisted the National Flag.

In his address, CM KCR extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Telangana and emphasised the significance of September 17 in the state’s history. He recalled that after India’s independence, the government took steps to integrate territories ruled by monarchs outside British administration into the Indian Union, a process that included the Hyderabad institution becoming an integral part of Sovereign India on September 17, 1948.

The merger of Hyderabad state into India marked the end of monarchy in Telangana and the commencement of a parliamentary democratic administration. In honor of this momentous event, the Telangana Government observes the day as “National Integration Day”, celebrating it by hoisting the Tricolour across the state.

CM KCR acknowledged the many battles fought on Telangana soil in the name of justice, righteousness, and the pursuit of constitutional rights. He paid tribute to numerous iconic figures, including Doddi Komuraiya, Chakali Ailamma, Komurambhim, Ravi Narayana Reddy, Shoaib Ulla Khan, Suravaram Prathapareddy, Swami Ramananda Thirtha, Jamalapuram Keshavrao, Bandi Yadagiri, Suddala Hanuman, Kaloji, and Dasharatha, describing them as warriors and immortals.

He reminisced about the period from 1948 to 1956 when Hyderabad emerged as a state after Telangana’s integration into India. Subsequently, in 1956, Telangana and Andhra were amalgamated to form Andhra Pradesh, a move met with opposition from the people of the Telangana region and marked by adverse consequences. CM KCR highlighted the movement for a separate state of Telangana, which sought to rectify the injustices suffered by the region and its people within the united state.

KCR expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead that historic era and acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to him by the people to fulfill their aspirations for statehood.

He viewed the achievement of Telangana as a defining moment in his life and highlighted his ongoing commitment to the state’s development and welfare initiatives since its formation on June 2, 2014. He described these programmes as exemplary and praised the state’s comprehensive, integrated development model, which prioritises the interests of all communities.
