Telangana: Former TPCC prez Ponnala joins BRS

Jangaon, Oct 16 (UNI) Former Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and former Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) here on Monday.

The 79-year-old Ponnala , who resigned from the Congress party recently, joined the BRS in the presence of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) at Jangaon public meeting ‘Praja Ashirvada Sabha’.

BRS President KCR welcomed Ponnala into the party-fold with a pink scarf..

A day before joining the party, Ponnala along with his family members, met the CM at Pragathi Bhavan.

On Sunday, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao met the senior congress leader personally at his residence and invited him to join the BRS.

Addressing the meeting, Ponnala said that he had resigned from Congress party due to being insulted by Congress for his service to the party for 45 years.

Urging the people to rally behind KCR and support his bid for a third term as Chief Minister, he said it is a historic necessity to see KCR serve as Chief Minister for the third time.

Highlighting the progress achieved during BRS rule, he said that Jangaon had seen unprecedented growth, particularly in terms of irrigation.

BRS MLA candidate for Jangaon Palla Rajeswara Reddy also took the stage to appeal to the people for their support.

A backward class leader, Ponnala, who holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, was elected four times to the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly from the Janagaon constituency and has served as a minister of Major Irrigation, IT and Communications in the previous Congress governments.
