Bhopal: The strike by truck and bus drivers in Madhya Pradesh has ended following the central government’s assurance to implement new provisions of the Hit and Run law only after due consultation.
As a result, normalcy was restored in Bhopal on Wednesday morning, with passenger buses, school buses, and trucks resuming their operations. Inter-state buses also commenced their services, and the transportation of milk, fruits, and vegetables returned to regular levels. City buses were back on track as well.
From 4 a.m. on Wednesday, drivers began operating buses traveling from Bhopal to other districts. The movement of trucks and loading vehicles facilitated the normal arrival of fruits and vegetables in the markets, resembling typical days.
Rajesh Sen, the General Secretary of the Bus Drivers Association in Jabalpur, stated, “The strike is over, and drivers are now back at the helm of the buses.”
William Daniel (Golu), the President of the Ratlam District Transport Employees Union, mentioned, “The strike has been called off following the assurance from the Central Government. Buses and trucks are resuming operations from Wednesday.”
Earlier, the Transport Committee of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) had urged drivers to end the strike.
CL Mukati, the president of the committee and Indore Truck Association, explained, “Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla held a meeting with the All India Motor Transport Congress on Tuesday evening in New Delhi. He indicated that the new law has not been implemented yet. A thorough discussion, as per Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 106/2, will take place with AIMTC representatives, and a decision will be made only after that.”
