Sri Lankan navy seizes 60 kg drugs

Colombo, Jan 20 (UNI) Sri Lanka’s navy confiscated two multi-day trawlers transporting over 60 kg of drugs, suspected to be heroin, the navy said in a statement on Saturday.

The navy also arrested 11 suspects who were in the vessels in a Friday special operation in the southern sea, around 100 nautical miles off Dondra Point, the statement said.

The drugs were hidden in three bags in one of the trawlers, and another trawler that was ready to transport the narcotics ashore was taken into custody, it said.

The navy said the two vessels, along with the 11 suspects and the drugs were brought to the Galle port on Saturday morning, adding that further investigations were underway.
