Amethi (UP), Feb 19 (UNI) Union Minister and local MP Smriti Irani on Monday attacked former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and said that those who considered Amethi as the center of power, but did not served the people were welcomed by the deserted roads.
While talking to the reporter, the Minister said, “They had to transport people from Sultanpur and Pratapgarh and he lefft after spending a few moments. What is the fault of the people of Amethi,” she said.
It may be noted that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra also reached Amethi during which he also addressing a public meeting.
She said that the anger of those who were deprived of development in Amethi on Monday transformed into deserted roads for the visit of the Gandhi family. “The atmosphere is such that even the Rae Bareli seat has been left by the Gandhi family. The streets are screaming that they no longer have anything to do with the Gandhi family,” she said.
In response to a question, Smriti said that the current MP is present in her constituency every week and this comes as no surprise to the residents of Amethi. “Those who left and those who were left behind become visible only when elections are held. Similarly, they are also seen when rain of votes is expected. When he arrived, the deserted streets welcomed him,” she said.
On the question regarding Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav not participating in the yatra, she said that why should any leader help a person who cannot contest even for his ancestral seat without support?
It may be noted that Union Minister Smriti Irani is currently on a four-day tour of Amethi. She is going from village to village and meeting the people through Jan Samvad Yatra. She is trying to solve their problems in the Jan Samvad Yatra.
