Siddaramaiah-chaired meeting on Cauvery water row starts in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) A meeting on Cauvery River water-sharing dispute with all-party MPs and union ministers from Karnataka started here on Wednesday.

The meeting is being chaired by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar also is attending.

The meeting will chart out steps to protect the interests of the state with regards to the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s order asking Karnataka government to release 5,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu daily till September 26.

Karnataka is opposing this order claiming that it is facing severe drought in some parts of the state and drinking water problems.

Yesterday, a delegation of Tamil Nadu MPs and MLAs led by State Water Resources Minister Durai Murgan met Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a bid to solve the dilemma.

Tamil Nadu alleged that the Karnataka government was violating CWMA’s order, asking Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of Cauvery water till September 26.
