Mumbai, Jan 24 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Wednesday rallied 689.76 pts to close high at 71,060.31 on the strength of Telecommunications, Metal and Oil and Gas stocks.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 215.45 pts at 21,453.95.
The NSE registered days high and low at 21,482.35 and 21,137.20 pts respectively.
High oscillation was witnessed during the day.
Slumping over 1000 pts on Tuesday, the Sensex opened on a weak note at 70,165.49, fell 205 pts. During the day it was lost further by 369 pts, days low.
In late trade, it was bounced back, and spurted 779 pts at 71,149.61, days high, before closing at 71,060.31, rallied 689.76 pts from its previous close.
The stocks that lifted the market were Telecommunications by 3.57 pc followed by Metal by 3.21 pc, Oil and Gas by 2.17 pc and Communications by 2.06 pc
The Mid Cap gained 1.71 pc and Small Cap by 1.72 pc.
The gainers were Tata Steel by 3.58 pc to VV 135.15, Powergrid by 3.49 pc to by 246.20, HCL Technology by 3.44 pc to t 1575.20, IndusInd Bank by 3.23 pc to Rs 1490.60 and Tech Mahindra by 3.09 pc to Rs 1407.35.
The losers were ICICI Bank by 2.94 pc to Rs 999.20, Axis Bank by 2.77 pc to Rs 1058.75, Asian Paints by 1.91 pc to Rs 2999.15 and TCS by 0.36 pc to Rs 3848.
