Sensex jumps 490.97 pts

Mumbai, Jan 4 (UNI) Snapping a losing streak of last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Thursday rallied 490.97 pts to close at 71,847.57 on the strength of Realty, Utilities, Telecommunications stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 141.25 pts at 21,658.60.

The NSE was days high and low at 21,954.79 and 21,546.60 pts respectively.

The Sensex opened on strong note at 71,678.93, up 322 pts.

During the day, it was zoomed 598 pts at 71,954.79, days high, before closing at 71,847.57pts from its previous close.

The stocks that lifted the market were

Realty, Utilities, Telecommunications and BSE services.

Realty surged 6.52 pc followed by Utilities by 2.50 pc, Telecommunications by 2.16 pc and BSE services by 1.59 pc.

The Mid Cap rose by 1.53 pc and Small Cap by 1.08 pc.

In 30 scrips, 20 advanced while 10 down.

The gainers were Bajaj Finance by 4.44 pc to Rs 7709.95, NTPC by 3.51 pc to Rs 317, IndusInd Bank by 2.93 pc to Rs 1648.50, Bharti Airtel by 2.31 pc to Rs 1059 and Axis Bank by 2.27 pc to Rs 1124.5.

The losers were HCL Technologies by 1.18 pc to Rs 1420.50, M& M by 0.82 pc to Rs 1641.95, Maruti Suzuki by 0.80 pc to Rs 9995 and Hind Unilever by 0.74 pc to Rs 2586.05.
