Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Wednesday dropped 551.07 points to close at 65,877.02 on profit booking by local operators.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 140.40 points to 19,671.10.
The Sensex opened higher at 66,473.74, rising 45 points. It surged 47 points to 66,475.27 days high.
Later, it tumbled down 586 pts at 65,842.10, days low, before closing at 65,877.02, sliding 551.07 pts from its previous close.
The stocks, including Power, Utilities, Bankex, and Financial Services, dragged the market today.
Power slid by 1.45 pc, followed by Financial Services by 1.20 pc, Bankex by 1.18 pc, and Utilities by 1.08 pc.
In the scrips, Bajaj Finance was a major loser, falling by 2.85 pc to Rs 7860.80, Bajaj Finserv by 2.02 pc to Rs 1624, and Axis Bank by 1.43 pc to be 993.90.
The gainers were Tata Motors by 1.85 pc to Rs 667.90, Sun Pharma by 0.46 pc to Rs 1152.45, and Maruti Suzuki by 0.36 pc to Rs 10,780.75.
The midcap declined by 0.85 pc and the smallcap by 0.32 pc.
In 30 scrips, 4 advanced while 26 declined.
