SC judgment on Bilkis Bano exposes BJP’s ‘anti-women’ face: Singhvi

New Delhi Jan 8 (UNI) The Indian National Congress on Monday hailed the Supreme Court judgment in the Bilkis Bano case as ‘revolutionary’ and said that the BJP’s true face of ‘anti-women’ has been exposed.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, senior party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the central government’s slogan of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ were nothing but mere ‘Jumlas’.

Singhvi said “this judgment showed the mirror to the arrogant power”. Adding that the judgment had completely exposed the BJP.

He also demanded an apology from the BJP for the entire episode on how the rapists were released and their release were celebrated.

The Supreme Court lawyer also said that the Union Home Ministry gave sanction and concurrence for the premature release of 11 people (the rapists).

The president of All India Mahila Congress Alka Lamba said that the BJP was not only protecting the rapists but also glorying them and using them for campaigning to win elections.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court set aside the Gujarat government’s decision to grant remission to 11 convicts sentenced to life term for the gang rape of Bilkis Bano and killing her family members during the 2002 Gujarat communal riot.
