New Delhi, (UNI) Despite making a comeback to India’s ODI squad for Asia Cup, doubts over KL Rahul reclaiming his place in playing XI persists as he is carrying a niggle.
“It is not the original injury. There is a niggle. That is why Sanju (Samson) is travelling (as backup player),” Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar told reporters after announcing the 17-member India squad here.
“We are expecting Rahul to be fit, if not at the start of Asia Cup, (then) may be by the second or the third game, Shreyas Iyer is fully fit,” he added.
Asia Cup kick starts on August 30 with a match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan.
India, who are pooled in Group A, will play all their matches in Sri Lanka, beginning with a faceoff with arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy.
Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are pooled in Group B.
Top two teams from each group will progress to the Super-4 stage.
