Rae Bareli, Amethi will develop together once alliance forms govt: Rahul

Amethi/Rae Bareli (UP), May 17 (UNI) Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that if the INDI alliance government comes to power equal attention will be given to the development of Rae Bareli and Amethi.

While addressing a public meeting in favour of Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma in Gauriganj-Nandamahar of Amethi parliamentary constituency, Rahul said, “Even if I become an MP from Rae Bareli, Amethi is my family and it will always be. Whatever work and scheme comes to Rae Bareli will come to Amethi, this is my guarantee.”

In the presence of his mother Sonia Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and his alliance partner and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav in Rae Bareli, the Congress leader and party candidate from Rae Bareli targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that seeing the possible defeat he is so nervous that he is giving speeches in his own language.

He again warned that if BJP succeeds in forming the government, it will change the Constitution. “It will end the reservation. It will hand over government undertakings to private hands and will end the right of speech of every citizen,” he alleged.

In her brief speech, former MP from Rae Bareli Sonia Gandhi said, “I am heartily grateful to the people of Rae Bareli for giving me the opportunity to serve as an MP for 20 years. Similarly, I am heartily grateful to Amethi. Indira Gandhi also had an emotional attachment to Rae Bareli. Our children’s families have been taught the same thing, respect and love everyone, but face injustice fearlessly. And I am handing over my son to you. Just as you considered me your own, Rahul will not disappoint you.”

Rahul alleged that the Modi government is a partner of the capitalists and they have betrayed everyone including the farmers and soldiers.

Earlier in Amethi, he said, “I came to Amethi for the first time 42 years ago with my father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, when I was a 12-year-old child. Whatever I have learnt in politics, the people of Amethi have taught me. I saw with my own eyes the relationship between Amethi and my father, the love and affection and that is my politics too.”

He said, “You should not think that I am contesting elections from Rae Bareli, I am yours, I am from Amethi, was, and will remain so. The Modi government snatched the food park from the people of Amethi which would have given employment to lakhs of people. Triple IT was snatched away, whatever we gave here, Narendra Modi tried to snatch it. I spread the network of national highways here. I connected Amethi to the rest of India by giving Petroleum Institute, National Aviation Academy, HAL, BHEL, CRPF Training Camp, Carbide Factory, but Narendra Modi cancelled the contract of the Carbide Factory. To help Adani they snatched that too from your hands.”

Calling BJP a threat to the Constitution, Rahul said, “For the first time a political party, its leaders have clearly said that they will abolish, destroy and throw away this Constitution, but it is not that easy. Every citizen of the country has to protect the Constitution, because it is your voice, it is your future, it has your thinking. This is the foundation of your progress.”

He said that if the Constitution is abolished, the public sector, jobs will end and inflation will reach the sky, reservation will end and all your rights will be snatched away from you, one after the other, one after the other.

The Congress leader said that the truth is that without this, only 22-25 rich people will be left with the rights in India. “The rights of farmers, workers, youth, of mothers and sisters, all will be snatched away. That is why the most important task is to protect this Constitution, protect it with your life, protect it with your heart,” he said.

He said, “Someone sent me an interview of the Prime Minister in which PM Modi was asked that the elected people are becoming richer and the poor people are becoming poorer. To this he replied, should everyone be made equal? Narendra Modi wants 22-25 rich people in the country to remain rich and the poor people remain poor.”

Rahul said that Modi has waived off the loan of 16 lakh crore rupees of 22 billionaires, that is, the money of MNREGA for 24 years. “If he can make 22 billionaires, then we can make crores of Lakhpatis. On June 4, a list of poor people of the country, including Amethi, will be made in which the name of one woman will be selected from every poor family and Rs 1 lakh rupees will be sent to her bank account every year,” he said.

He said, “Narendra Modi has not waived off the loan of the farmers, we will show it by waiving off the loan of all the poor farmers of Amethi. After June 4, you will get the legal minimum support price. The Government of India will give you the right money for your hard work. We will restart MNREGA in a better way and you will get Rs 400 for MNREGA, not Rs 250.”

The Congress leader said that for the first time in the history of India, soldiers were made labourers through the Agniveer Yojana to be ousted from the service after three years. When the coalition government we will throw the Agniveer scheme in the dustbin and everyone will get pension, canteen facilities, respect and medals,” he said.

He said that the Modi government made the youth unemployed, demonetised, implemented wrong GST and put the common man on the road. He said that when the coalition government comes to power every unemployed person will get the right to ‘first permanent job’.

Rahul said, “In fact, we are jump starting the economy of India. Just like petrol is put in the engine of a motorcycle, in the same way we are putting petrol in the economy of India by putting money in your pocket, we are preparing to jump start it.”

Apart from Rahul and SP president Akhilesh Yadav, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, In-charge of Amethi Lok Sabha seat and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot were present in the Sankalp Sabha.
