Publication of any type of exit poll banned from 7th to 30th Nov

Bhopal: The Model Code of Conduct for Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2023 is in effect. Chief Electoral Officer Shri Anupam Rajan said that during the Model Code of Conduct, there will be a ban on conducting any type of exit poll related to the election from 7 am on November 7 to 6:30 pm on November 30 or publishing or promoting its results in print or electronic media.

A notification to this effect has been issued by the Election Commission of India on 31 October 2023. The issued notification clarifies that during the election period, there will be a ban on demonstration or publication of election related matters including the results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media during the 48 hours ending with the time fixed for the close of poll in all polling areas.

Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act 1951 provides that no person shall conduct exit poll survey and will not publish or publicize the results of any exit poll survey in the print or electronic media during such period as may be notified by the Election Commission in this regard. If any person contravenes this provision, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
