President Murmu hails defence production crossing Rs one lakh crore

New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday hailed the work done by the government in the defence sector and crossing the Rs one lakh crore in production.

While addressing the joint sitting of Lok sabha and Rajya Sabha in the new Parliament Building here, she said that the country’s defence production has crossed the Rs one lakh crore mark and the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaigns are becoming the strength of the country’s overall development journey.

Mentioning about the indigenously built INS Vikrant, the President said that this aircraft carrier was making every Indian proud.

Murmu said that on one hand the combat aircraft Tejas was becoming the strength of the Air Force, and on the other, India will be witnessing the manufacturing of C-295 transport aircraft and modern aircraft engines.

She also mentioned about the development of Defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

On the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP), the President said, “My government implemented the OROP which was awaited for four decades. After implementation of OROP, the ex-servicemen have by now received approximately Rs one lakh crore”.

Murmu also credited the government for appointing the first Chief of Defence Staff for India’s defence forces.

Besides public, she said that the government has also ensured participation of private sector in defence sector.

The Budget session of Parliament began today, during which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim Budget on Thursday. The session will continue till February 9.
