New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) The Centre on Tuesday said that there is no proposal under consideration to hike annual cash support to farmers under Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN).
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, the central government currently provides financial benefit to the tune of Rs 6,000 per year to farmers across the country.
The amount is provided in three equal installments every four months directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries.
The PM-KISAN scheme is one of the largest direct benefit transfer (DBT) schemes of the world.
“No proposal (to increase cash support under PM-KISAN) is under consideration,” said Union Argiculture Minister Arjun Munda in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
Lawmakers Jayanta Kumar Roy and Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo asked the government whether it was planning to increase the amount from Rs 6000 to Rs 8000/12000 per year to farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme.
The PM-KISAN scheme is a central sector scheme which was launched in February 2019 by the central government to supplement the financial needs of land-holding farmers.
“A farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all the farmers across the country without any involvement of the middlemen,” Minister Munda said.
The government has so far disbursed over Rs 2.81 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers in 15 installments.
